La influencia de la iglesia. Influence of Catholic doctrine.

The bribery to the nuns

Spain had suffered a 40 years of a rightwave dictatorship that counts with the support of the Catholic eleites  and the state of Vatican since the start of the Civil War, and after that, Franco remanded the influence that the church had in the schools, education and social education. This time of  obligation to exercise the Catholic belief and if someone didn't follow could be punished with jail, makes the spanish society be afraid and hate, in some cases, the Catholic doctrine.

Althought the influence of the Catholic doctrine still big, it has been changing though the different decades in the 60s it was easy to see Franco under a canopy in the procession with the biggest personalities in the church. Women and men used to go to church almost every day where they were in separates benches, women wore a veil on their head and run to kiss priest's hand when they saw him. Lots of kids went to the seminary to study and religious schools were separated for boys and girls. The subjet of religion was vey important.
In the 70s the things were changing because you could choice between ethic and religion. Women and men became to be together in the same wing of the church, but the religious simbols stayed in the school and very few people confessed to belong to a different confesion. In the early 70s the month of May was very celebrated at school, people used to attended to "novenas" and to decorated altars to the virgin Mary, with flowers brought by the children.

Nowadays althought few people admit to belong to the Catholic church most of them carry on making the first communion , getting married throught the Catholic ritual but the feeling of belonging to a confession is really far away of being what it was.
